Behind the artwork: Norppa is the Finnish name for the highly endangered Ringed Seal that live in Lake Saimaa. The black spots on the piece are formed by trapping the carbon released during the firing process.

About the artist: Alex’s sculptures are born through a material driven process using found or recycled materials. He is currently studying art education at Aalto University and works and runs ceramics courses at MiSo Ceramics in Kallio.
