KOKOPELLI

Kokopelli was depicted
as a figure playing a flute,
the playing of which was
said to drive away winter
and bring in spring in its
place. Some tribes
associated Kokopelli
with bringing the rains,
and he was sometimes
depicted with another
flute-playing figure,
Paiyatamu, during
corn-grinding ceremonies. Kokopelli has become famous for the petroglyphs depicting it in the American Southwest.
