Microworlds – 10x10cm Original Painting, Mixed Media on Canvas

“Microworlds” is part of the “Microworlds” series by Anna Joenvirta.

It’s a series of mini artworks inspired by my fascination with pebbles.

Pebbles are everywhere: we walk on them, kick them and sometimes even spit on them. But most commonly we don’t notice them. 

I pick one pebble to watch closer. Then I feel the texture. I see how different minerals are blended together in this small stone. I check how water changes its colours. I wait until this one gets warmer in my hand. 

Can you imagine what experiences this stone has gone through? It has been here long before you, and it will remain long after. 

Pebbles are a symbol of permanence and persistence in some cultures. And there’s a reason for it.
